How to Track Supersets, Dropsets, and Advanced Workout Structures

One of the most requested features in Setgraph has finally arrived.

For months, users have been asking for supersets. At first, we planned to build exactly that, a simple way to pair exercises together and record them back-to-back.

But as we dug deeper into how people actually train, we discovered something important:

Not everyone uses supersets the same way.

Some athletes pair opposing muscle groups. Others use giant sets. Some rely heavily on dropsets. Others organize their workouts into custom sequences that don't fit any traditional label at all.

Rather than building a feature that only solved one training style, we built a system capable of supporting all of them.

Today, we're introducing Multisets.

What Are Multisets?

Multisets are a new way to organize and record groups of sets within Setgraph.

Instead of thinking about each exercise as an isolated list of sets, Multisets allow you to define how those sets relate to each other.

This creates a more natural representation of how workouts are actually performed in the gym.

Whether you're alternating between exercises, reducing weight during a dropset, or creating your own custom training structure, Multisets keep everything organized and easy to track.

Four Ways to Use Multisets

Supersets

The feature that started it all.

Supersets allow you to group two or more exercises together and perform them back-to-back with minimal rest.

Common examples include:

  • Bench Press + Rows

  • Bicep Curls + Tricep Extensions

  • Lunges + Hamstring Curls

Instead of recording each exercise separately, the entire superset exists as a single structure within your workout.

Benefits:

  • Less time spent navigating between exercises

  • Faster workout logging

  • Easier workout organization

  • Better representation of actual training flow

  • Improved visibility when reviewing past workouts

For lifters who rely on supersets regularly, this dramatically reduces friction during training.

Dropsets

Dropsets are now first-class citizens inside Setgraph.

Instead of creating multiple individual sets and manually tracking weight reductions, you can define a dedicated dropset structure.

For example:

  • 160 lb × 6

  • 135 lb × 8

  • 115 lb × 10

All recorded as part of a single dropset.

Benefits:

  • Cleaner workout history

  • Easier performance analysis

  • More accurate representation of training intensity

  • Less manual setup and logging

Dropsets are one of the most commonly requested advanced training methods, and now they're fully integrated into your workout flow.

Checkmark Sets

Not every exercise needs a complex structure.

Some exercises are simply a series of sets completed one after another with rest between each set.

Checkmark Sets provide a lightweight way to track these scenarios.

Benefits:

  • Cleaner workout screens

  • Faster completion tracking

  • Reduced clutter

  • Ideal for accessory work and prescribed training blocks

Sometimes simplicity is exactly what you need.

Custom Multisets

This is where things get interesting.

Custom Multisets allow you to build your own training structures from scratch.

No predefined rules.

No restrictions.

Just complete flexibility.

Benefits:

  • Adapt Setgraph to your training style

  • Support unique coaching methodologies

  • Experiment with unconventional programming

  • Future-proof workout design

Because not every training system fits neatly into traditional categories.

Build Workouts That Reflect Reality

Before Multisets, workouts were primarily organized as individual exercises.

While effective, this often forced users to mentally reconstruct how exercises related to one another during training.

With Multisets, workout plans become much more expressive.

A workout can now clearly communicate:

  • Which exercises belong together

  • Which movements should be alternated

  • Which sets form a dropset sequence

  • Which training structures are intended by the coach or athlete

The result is a workout that feels closer to the way it was originally designed.

Better Workout Planning

Multisets aren't just useful while recording workouts.

They're also powerful when building workout programs.

Supersets now appear as grouped blocks inside your workout templates, making it immediately obvious how a session is intended to be performed.

This creates several advantages:

  • Improved readability - Training sessions become easier to understand at a glance.

  • Better coaching communication - Coaches can clearly communicate exercise pairings and workout structure.

  • Faster workout creation - Once grouped, exercises remain organized and reusable.

  • Reduced setup mistakes - Athletes can immediately identify which exercises belong together.

  • A Faster Logging Experience - One of our primary goals with Multisets was reducing friction during workouts.

Every extra tap matters when you're training.

Instead of constantly moving between exercises, Multisets bring related exercises together into a single recording experience.

This means:

  • Less navigation

  • Less scrolling

  • Fewer interruptions

  • Faster logging

The result is a workflow that keeps your attention on training instead of data entry.

More Accurate Training Data

Workout tracking is only useful if it accurately reflects what happened in the gym.

Traditional workout trackers often treat every set as completely independent.

The problem is that advanced training methods aren't independent.

A dropset isn't just three separate sets.

A superset isn't just two unrelated exercises.

They're connected.

Multisets preserve those relationships.

This gives you workout data that more closely mirrors the reality of your training sessions, making future analysis more meaningful.

Designed for How People Actually Train

One of the biggest lessons we learned while building this feature was that training styles are incredibly diverse.

Some users wanted traditional supersets.

Others wanted giant sets.

Others wanted dropsets.

Some wanted structures we'd never even considered.

Instead of building a single feature for a single training style, we built a foundation that can grow alongside the community.

Multisets are the first step toward a more flexible workout-building system, one that can support a wider variety of training methods without forcing everyone into the same workflow.

Available Now

Multisets are available now in Setgraph.

Whether you're organizing supersets, pushing through dropsets, simplifying workout logging, or building custom training structures, Multisets give you more control over how your workouts are planned, recorded, and analyzed.

We're excited to see how you use them, and this is only the beginning.
